EV shipping

Electric vehicles ship on the same open and enclosed carriers as gas cars but weigh more, so our model adds 5% to the estimate, and heavy EVs can limit how many cars fit on a trailer. Leave about half a charge, switch on the transport or tow mode described in the owner’s manual, and turn off camera and climate features that drain the pack. Preparing an EV for pickup

Leave about half a charge, and no less than roughly 30%: carriers cannot charge en route, and the driver needs enough charge to load, reposition and unload. If your owner’s manual gives a storage range, follow it. Enable the transport or tow mode described in the owner’s manual (Tesla calls it Transport Mode) so the car can roll onto the trailer, turn off Sentry Mode and cabin overheat protection, and leave the charge cable in the trunk for delivery.

Why weight matters to price

EVs are typically heavier than comparable gas models, and full-size electric pickups are heavier still. Trailers have axle-weight limits, so a load of EVs may carry fewer vehicles, and carriers price the difference. Our model applies a 5% EV adjustment, and a truck rated 10,001 to 14,000 lb prices as oversized. The vehicle transport class lookup reads your VIN’s NHTSA weight rating and shipping class.

Estimate my route

From estimate to delivery

What happens after you ask for a quote, whichever service you choose.

Get your estimate

Enter ZIPs and vehicle details. You see a typical price range instantly, before you share contact information.

Request a quote

If you want a quote, your request goes to our licensed transport partner, an FMCSA-licensed auto transport broker. We send it to that one broker only, never to a list of companies.

Price, dates and carrier

Our licensed transport partner contacts you to confirm the actual price, pickup dates and vehicle details, then books the shipment and assigns an FMCSA-registered carrier. Ask about deposits and payment terms before you book.

Pickup and delivery

The assigned carrier usually calls 12–24 hours ahead. You both sign a Bill of Lading with a condition report at pickup, then check the car against it at delivery. Most shipments arrive in 2–10 days.

EV shipping FAQ

Can an EV ship on an open carrier?

Yes. There is no protection reason to choose enclosed for an EV; enclosed is a value decision like any other car.

Do carriers need special equipment for EVs?

Is a Cybertruck or Hummer EV oversized?

Ready for a real number?

See a price range for your route before you share a phone number. When you want a quote, one licensed auto transport broker, our transport partner, confirms the actual price and pickup dates.
